Attorney Gonthier-Kiely has specialized in representing seriously injured persons, and the families of those who have lost a loved one due to the wrongful conduct of others, since she began her career in 1981 at Costello Hourihan Frattaroli & Barrett P.C. She became a named partner in 1985 and continued to specialize in litigation and trial of personal injury and death cases at Costello Frattaroli Barrett & Gonthier P.C. until 1995. In 1995, she founded Gonthier Kiely & Associates. P.C., a boutique firm, where she has continued to specialize in all kinds of cases resulting in serious personal injury or death, including medical negligence, motor vehicle negligence, products liability, construction liability, premises liability, liquor liability and general negligence cases.
Since obtaining a $1,000,000 verdict in her first trial, for a Natick school teacher who suffered a hip fracture in a fall over a bread dolly, and winning the appeal of that verdict, which yielded a judgment in excess of $2,000,000, Attorney Gonthier-Kiely has consistently won numerous multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements on behalf of her clients, some of which have established legal precedent.
Attorney Gonthier-Kiely has been selected by her peers for inclusion in the 2018 Best Lawyers of America, recognized by Massachusetts Super Lawyers from 2008 to 2017, named to the Top Women of Law by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly in 2016 and honored by the North Shore Women’s Bar Association as “Lawyer of the Year” in 2012.
Attorney Gonthier-Kiely is currently the Immediate Past President of the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys (MATA), having just completed two terms as President. She previously served as Secretary, Treasurer and President-Elect of MATA, Chairman of the MATA Voir Dire Committee, Editor in Chief of the MATA Journal, Chairman of the Medical Malpractice Committee and is a long standing member of both the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors.
Attorney Gonthier-Kiely is Past President of the Essex County Bar Association. During her tenure as President, in celebration of Law Day 2013, Attorney Gonthier-Kiely organized, scripted and costumed a re-enactment of the famous 1830 Commonwealth v. Knapp case at the Newburyport Superior Courthouse built in 1805, based upon her reading of the original trial transcripts. The case involved the murder of a prominent Salem man which was prosecuted by Daniel Webster.
Attorney Gonthier-Kiely has served on panels for MCLE, including the 14th Annual New England Personal Injury Law Conference, the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys, the Massachusetts Bar Association, including Voir Dire Training: Learn From the Experts and Be Prepared, March 2015; and the Essex County Bar Association. As President of MATA, she organized statewide Voir Dire training workshops for MATA members.
Attorney Gonthier-Kiely is a Cum Laude 1981 graduate of Suffolk Law School and 1974 Summa Cum Laude graduate of Emmanuel College. She also received a Diplôme du Langue et Littérature from the Sorbonne, Paris, in 1973.
